Jefferson University used a strong second quarter to erase an eight point deficit as they defeated the Lincoln University women's basketball team 70-64 Sunday afternoon at  Manuel Rivero Hall.

The Lions fall to 2-2 with the loss.  The Rams, who entered the game ranked #4 in the D2SIDA East region poll, improved to 4-0.

DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) led the Lions with 18 points (8-16 FG).  Deja Reynolds (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter (Temple)) and Kenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) added 12 and 11 points respectively.   Reynolds also led the team with nine rebounds while Spencer dished out a game high six assists and had three blocks on the afternoon.

Beverly Kum led the rams with 19 points (6-11 FG, 7-16 FT) while Jessica Kaminski chipped in 18 (6-15 FG, 6-8 FT).  Caitlyn Cunningham rounded out the double figure scorers with 16 points (5-14 FG, 3-5 3FG).  Erin Maher had a game-high ten rebounds.

Lincoln led throughout the first quarter and increased their lead to eight, 18-10 as Reynolds scored the team's first points of the period.  Jefferson than went on a 16-2 tear to take a six point lead at 26-20, with ten of the 16 points coming from the free throw line.  The two teams exchanged buckets in the final minute of the quarter (a three-ball from Young and a two from Cunningham) to put the score at 28-23 at the half.

Jefferson increased their lead to eight with six straight points after the Lions cut the deficit to two at 30-28, prompting a quick timeout.    Young's layup with 2:26 left closed the gap back to three at 47-44..  The Rams again pushed the lead back to seven with four straight points before Alisia Machado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evars Prep (Grambling)) sank two free throws (Lincoln's first trip to the line on the afternoon) and Spencer followed with a layup to make the score 51-48.    Kum's putback at the buzzer left the Lions trailing 53-48 entering the final period.

A 10-5 run by the Rams pushed their lead to double digits, 63-53 with 6:18 left in the game.  Lincoln would close the gap to five late but would get no closer as the Rams settled in for the six-point win.

The two teams combined to shoot just 25% in the first two quarters (17-66) but improved their accuracy in the final 20 minutes.  Both teams improved their accuracy in the second half with the Lions finishing the game shooting 40.3% (27-67) from the field and the Rams 37.1%  (23-62).  Jefferson however held a big advantage on the free throw line, making 19 of 32 shots (59.4%) while the Lions went to the line just twice the entire game, making two of four.  Lincoln held the edge on the glass, 44-41 but committed eight more turnovers leading to 17 Ram points off 21 LU turnovers (Lincoln had nine from 13 JU miscues).
