Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Golden Rams Hand Lions Their Second Straight Loss

Four players scored in double figures for the Lincoln University women's basketball team Tuesday night as they dropped their second straight game, falling to a perennially strong West Chester University squad 84-80 at Manuel Rivero Hall.

Lincoln falls to 2-3 on the season while West Chester improves to 3-1.

DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) led the Lions with 24 points and ten rebounds to record her first double-double as a Lion and fifth of her collegiate career. Kenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) had a career-high 20 points along with a game high five assists.  DeeDee Irwin (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) and Jada Queen (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) added 12 and 10 points respectively.

Destiny Jefferson led all scorers with 27 points to pace the Golden Ram offense.  Gabby Troisi and Alexis Henderson chipped in 19 and 18 points respectively.  Katie Fisher and Troisi led WCU with eight rebounds and four assists apiece.

Similar to the last loss two days ago to Jefferson, it was the second quarter that proved to be the Lions undoing as the Golden Rams outscored the Lions 29-16, erasing a slim Lincoln lead and taking a 44-34 lead at the half.

Troisi's jumper to open the third quarter pushed WCU's lead to their biggest margin at 46-34.  The Lions followed with an 11-2 spurt to get back in the game and close within three 48-45 with 6:21 left in the quarter Three-pointers from Spencer and Irwin along with a pair of driving layups from Young sparked the run.  The Golden Rams pushed the lead back up to nine before the Lions shaved it down to six, 62-56 as they entered the fourth quarter.

Spencer sank her fourth three-ball of the game to open the final period and Queen followed with a layup to pull the Lions within one 62-61.  West Chester added six straight points followed by five straight from the Lions, again making it a one possession game at 68-66 with 6:44 left.  The Golden Rams again started to pull away over the next three minutes, opening up a nine point advantage 79-70 with 3:21 left on the clock.  The Lions continued to play hard and attempt a comeback, pulling within five twice and later four in the final minute but the final score 84-80 would be as close as they would get.

The women's basketball team is back in action on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 when they travel south down the road to face Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware.  Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
