Terence Berry (Dover, N.J./Dover HS) limited the Chowan University baseball team to just two hits but the Lions struggled to provide run support for the senior pitcher as the Hawks beat Lincoln University 2-0 in the opening game of their four game series in Murfreesboro, North Carolina on Saturday

Chowan went on to win the second game 21-5 to complete Saturday's doubleheader sweep. Lincoln falls to 5-22 overall and 1-9 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games. The Hawks improve to 18-20 overall and 8-3 in league play.

Berry tossed 5.1 innings, allowing the two hits and two runs while striking out six. He also walked six batters. Berry drops to 2-3 on the season and lowered his earned run average to 3.83, third best in the CIAA.

Cody Smith pitched six shutout innings allowing three hits while walking two and striking out five to earn the win for the Hawks. Jake Moore pitched a scoreless seventh for his second save of the season. Smith improves to 3-0 on the season.

The Lions had their best opportunity to score off Smith in their first at-bat to open the game, as
Aiden Gomes (Bronx, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) singled and DeVanté Parker walked with one out.Â
Joshua Roberson (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley HS) however grounded into a double play to end the threat.

Chowan got their first run in the bottom half of the second inning as Connor Arcobasso lifted a sacrifice fly to score Kyle Cross who had drawn a one-out walk.  A wild pitch by Berry in the bottom of the fifth brought home the second Hawk run.

Lincoln got a single from
Ronald Lashley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker Academy) in the third and a single from Parker in the fourth but failed to score. Parker also reached on a fielder's choice in the sixth after Gomes walked. He stole second with two outs but was left stranded. Moore retired the Lions in order in the seventh to preserve the win.

In game two, Chowan's Trent Brosdahl blasted a pair of three run home runs and had an RBI double for a total of seven RBI as the Hawks routed the Lions 21-5.

Rolando Alvarez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth Regional HS) took the loss, lasting just 2.1 innings and allowing nine runs on ten hits.Â
Luis Nieves (Staten Island, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) pitched the final 3.2 innings, giving up 12 runs (seven earned) on nine hits while striking out three.

Four Hawk pitchers combined to allow the five Lincoln runs and just five hits from the Lions.
Starter Bailey Lipscomb picked up the win, upping his record to 4-5.

The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Roberson started things off with a leadoff single.
Gabriel Santiago (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) walked and
Christian Gil (Staten Island, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) followed with a single to score Roberson and move Santiago to third. Gil stole second with one out and moved to third on a fielding error by the Chowan rightfielder on a shot off the bat of
Marquis Coleman (Middle River , Md./Baltimore Polytech HS). Coleman advanced to second while Santiago scored.Â
Julian Bradshaw (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Generation HS) then launched a sacrifice fly to center field to score Gil with the third Lions run.

Chowan got two back in the bottom of the second on Harry Markotay's RBI triple and Julian Lopez's sacrifice fly.

Santiago made the score 4-2 in the third when he drove in Roberson, who had doubled, with a single up the middle.

The wheels came undone in the bottom of the third inning when the Hawks sent 11 men to the plate, banging out eight hits and scoring seven times to take a 9-4 lead and chasing Alvarez off the mound. Seven different Hawks drove in runs. Arcobasso had two hits in the inning including a leadoff double. Zach Cooper, Brosdahl and Markotay also doubled in the inning.

Michael Howard (Bronx, N.Y./Utica College) scored the final Lions run in the fourth inning, reaching on an infield error and later scored on a second infield error, closing the deficit to 9-5.

The Hawks blew the game open in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring 11 times to make the final tally 21-5. Brosdahl hit a three run home run in each inning to complete his seven RBI afternoon.

The Lions will complete their four game series with a doubleheader tomorrow at Chowan's Hawkins Stadium. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
