Harris Extends School's Javelin Record as Lions Compete at Millersville Metrics Invite

Christian Harris (Rochester, N.Y./The Aquinas Institute) extended her own school record for the javelin throw as the Lincoln University women's track and field team competed at the Millersville Metric Invite in Millersville, Pennsylvania on Saturday, recording a 15th place finish.

Lincoln scored a total of 15 points, to place 15th amongst the 20 programs competing.  West Chester University was the top scorer in the meet with 155 points.

Harris tossed the javelin 34.09 meters, breaking her previous school record set two weeks ago at the Maryland Invitational by .1 meters.  Her toss came in the preliminary round and Harris finished in 11th place overall.

The field events produced six of the Lions 15 points as Tamara Jones (Chicago, Ill./Brooks College Prep) took fifth place in the triple jump with a leap of 10.70 meters (35' 1¼"), scoring four points and Diana Martinez (Kissimmee, Fla./St. Cloud HS) placed seventh in the discus throw with a toss of 35.70 meters (117' 1") scoring two.  Aasante Love (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville Senior HS) recorded the only other top ten finish by a Lincoln athlete in the field events, placing ninth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.43 meters (4' 8¼").

Heading over to the track, the Lions recorded a pair of top ten finishes, both of which scored the remaining nine points.  Lincoln's 4 x 100 meter relay team of Tema Kidd (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown HS), Adia Berkel (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine HS), Harris and Deja Rowe (Hyattsville, Md./Duval HS) placed third with a time of 51.24seconds, netting the team six points.  Berkel also placed sixth in the 200 meter dash, scoring three points for the Lions with a time of 26.26 seconds.

In addition to Harris' record throw, one additional personal record was set on the afternoon, that coming in the 800-meter run as Monique Cheek lower her best time in the event for the second consecutive week, running the two-lap race in 2:39.72.

The Lions return to action next Saturday, April 8, 2017 when they compete at the Bowie State University Classic.
