Shippensburg Holds Lions Hitless in 11-0 Win

Lincoln University softball pitcher Diamond Scott (Piscataway,N.J/Piscataway, N.J.) allowed just four hits for the second consecutive game but Shippensburg University pitcher Chloe Collins did not allow a single hit as the Raiders defeated the Lions 11-0 in five innings in Lincoln's final game at the Shaw University Softball Challenge in Cary, North Carolina on Sunday.

Lincoln falls to 1-6 overall with the loss while Shippensburg improves to 9-7.

Scott took the loss, allowing all 11 runs (only two were earned) on four hits while walking seven.  The Lions committed four errors, three of which contributed to the Raiders two big innings.
Collins struck out 11 Lincoln batters and walked two to earn her third win of the season.

The Lions did not get their first baserunner until the fourth inning when Scott drew a leadoff walk.  Diana Martinez (Kissimmee, Fla./St. Cloud HS) drew a walk in the fifth inning before Collins got the last three outs to end the game.

Scott meanwhile faced just one batter above the minimum through the first two innings and got the first batter out in the third before the floodgates opened.  Two fielding errors and four passed balls by the Lincoln defense along with two walks, three stolen bases, and three singles by the Raiders led to a 7-0 lead for Shippensburg.

The Raiders plated four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to complete their scoring.  Taryn Wilson finished the game with two RBI, courtesy of her single in the third inning.

Lincoln returns home for their home opener scheduled for Sunday, March 12, 2017 against Queens College (NY).  First pitch will be at 1:00 p.m., weather permitting.
