The Lincoln University women's basketball team used a 28-point fourth quarter as they pulled away from Washington Adventist University, earning a 77-53 win Thursday night at Manuel Rivero Hall.
The Lions improve to 4-3 with the win. The Shock fall to 7-7.
Michelle Fitzgerald (Baltimore, Md./Md. Academy of Tech & Health Science (N.C. A & T)) recorded her third consecutive double-double with a career-high 24 points while grabbing 11 rebounds.Â
Shahra Madison (Chesapeke, Va./Norfolk Collegiate School (Chesapeke College)) also recorded a double-double with 14 points and a career high 12 rebounds. Â
Brianna Logan (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley (Siena)) added a career-high 16 points while dishing out a team high five assists.Â
Teira Pendleton (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytech) had four steals while Fitzgerald and Madison added three apiece.
Amber Mormon led the Shock with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Â Christine Mabry added 11 points. Â
The Lions had their best shooting fourth quarter of the season, making 63.6% of their shots from the field (7-11) including 4-6 from three-point range. Â Lincoln also connected on 10 of 12 points in the period as they outscored the shock 28-11, turning a seven-point game into a rout.Â
Fitzgerald had nine of her 24 points in the period with a perfect shooting effort (2-2 FG, 1-1 3FG, 4-4 FT). Madison added five points and four rebounds in the final period while freshman
Taylor King (Lorton, Va./Hayfield Secondary) came off the bench to score her first collegiate three-point field goal and first free throws to finish the game with five points. Logan also had five points in the period with one three-ball and two-point bucket.
Lincoln never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an early 8-2 lead which the Shock did cut to two at the end of the period on a three-ball from Mabry, 15-13. Mormon's two free throws tied the score at 15-15 before a 15-6 run by the Lions put Lincoln back in control.
The Shock closed the gap to four in the third quarter, 33-29 before a Logan trey pushed the lead back to seven, early in the period. After the two teams exchanged baskets, the Lions lead oscillated between seven and ten points the rest of the quarter with Lincoln holding a 49-42 advantage heading into the final period.
Lincoln shot 39.7% (23-58) from the field while the Shock made just 20 of 54 shots (37%).  The Lions also made a season high nine three-pointers (20 attempts) with Logan hitting four of them. Washington Adventist meanwhile connected on just four of 21 three-point shots (19%). The Lions also more than doubled up the Shock on the free throw line 22-31 (71%) to 9-15 (60%).  Lincoln held a 45-34 advantage on the glass and committed four fewer turnovers (17-21).
The Lions return to action on Sunday, December 10, 2017 when they host Chestnut Hill College in their final non-conference game of the semester before hitting the road for three consecutive conference games in North Carolina.
