Lions Lose Regular Season Finale in Five Sets to Bowie State

The Lincoln University women's volleyball team was unable to clinch their third consecutive playoff berth for the upcoming Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Volleyball Championship Tournament, falling to host Bowie State University 3-2 in bowie, Maryland Wednesday night.
 
The Lions finish the regular season with a 4-20 overall mark and a 2-14 record (2-8 North Division) in conference play.   Bowie concludes their regular season at 6-22 overall and 2-14 in CIAA game (2-8  North Division).  Lincoln will now await the result of Thursday's Elizabeth City State-Virginia State match.   A loss by ECSU will give the Lions the fourth and final playoff berth.  An ECSU win will give them the final playoff berth. 
 
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the opening set and took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-17 win.  Lincoln bounced right back with a 25-18 win in the second set.  Bowie took the third set, 25-19 to take a 2-1 lead in the match before the Lions held off a late charge from the Bulldogs to capture the fourth set 26-24.   Bowie State rallied late in the fifth set tiebreaker to win the set 15-12 and take the match 3-2.
 
Aubury Coleman (Mason City, Iowa/ Mason City) and Mariah Russell (St Louis Mo./Maplewood Richmond Heights) both recorded double-doubles on the night with Coleman notching a match-high 13 kills and 13 digs and Russell getting 11 kills and a match-high 15 digs.  Alisa Foster (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Acad.) had 23 assists and also led the Lions with six service aces.  On the defensive end, Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat)  added ten digs to join Russell and Coleman in double figures for digs. Lincoln's receiving game however struggled as the Bulldogs recorded 24 aces against the Lions.
 
Kiana Moore and Tia Williams led Bowie State with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Bianca Tucker (14) and Oladia Menchaca (10) combined for 24 of the Bulldogs 27 assists in the match.  Sydney Tucker led all players with seven service aces. Moore added 13 digs to record a double-double while Kilana Jenkins also reached double figure in digs with 12.  Williams also had three blocks to lead the Bulldogs.
