Top Seed Shaw Defeats Lions in CIAA Quarterfinals

The Lincoln University women's volleyball team saw their season come to an end Friday evening as they lost to a dominant Shaw University squad 3-0 (25-4, 24-9, 25-6) in the quarterfinal round of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Volleyball Championship at Virginia State University.
 
The Lions finish the season with a 4-21 record.  The top-seeded Bears improve to 26-4 and will face host Virginia State in the semi-finals on Saturday.
 
Lincoln's offense could not get on track the entire match recording just seven total kills in the three sets.  Aubury Coleman (Mason City, Iowa/ Mason City) had four kills while Mariah Russell (St Louis Mo./Maplewood Richmond Heights) added two.  Mikhi Wright (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia HS for Girls) had one.  Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) led the team with eight digs while alias foster added three.
 
The Bears were led by Saraya Klink's eight kills all without an error.  Aisja Jones and Amari Fletcher added six kills apiece.  Tiffany Brooks had four aces and eight digs to lead the team.
 
The match was also the final contest for Russell. She finishes her career as Lincoln's all-time leader in kills with 605, recording 231 this season.  She is also the first Lion in program history to record 200 or more kills in two consecutive seasons.  Coleman also broke the 200-kill mark finishing the season with 206, just the fourth player in program history to record 200 or more kills in a season.
