The Lincoln University football team ran for a season high 165 yards; including a record setting run from scrimmage; and produced over 300 yards of total offense for the second consecutive week but found themselves on the short side of a 56-18 loss to Elizabeth City State University on Saturday in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
The loss drops the Lions record to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games. The Vikings improve to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Carlos Croslin (Baltimore, Md./Frederick Douglass (Globe Tech) ) led the Lions with 93 yards rushing, getting the bulk of the yardage on one play, a record-setting 88-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The 88-yard run is the longest run from scrimmage in the modern era of Lincoln football. Rob Catching added 44 yards on the ground while
Justin Johnson (Etters, Pa./Red Land) added 27. Quarterback
Trey McCollum (Burlington, N.C./Western Alamance) had nine completions for 178 yards and one touchdown pass.
Andre Price (Rialto, Calif./Jurupa Hills (Chabot)) caught four passes for 97 yards while
Deon Reddick (Cleveland, Ohio/Glenville) caught three including a 29 yard touchdown reception.
On the defensive end Rob Thomas led theLions with seven tackles while
Jabari Thomas (Washington, D.C./Carroll (Hampton)) and
Christopher Betts (Washington, D.C./Eastern) had siux apiece.
Oscar Brown (Detroit, Mich./Southfield-Lathrup (Rochester CC)) had two of the Lions four sacks.
The Vikings' Vincent Thomas had 15 tackles against the Lions including five resulting in loss of yards. Shawn Bridges added seven tackles.
ECSU Quarterback completed 15 of 20 passes for 204 yards and touchdown passes to four different receivers. He also gained an additional 89 yards rushing, including a 57-yard touchdown run. Deshon Saunders had 48 yards rushing and caught five passes for 74 yards including a touchdown. Victor Greene ran for two touchdowns and caught a third. Dajuan Greene also had two touchdowns, one receiving and one on a kickoff return.
Dajuan Greene's touchdown catch came on the Vikings' opening drive and was the first of three first quarter scores for the hosts, putting the Lions in a 21-0 hole heading into the second quarter. Neal's 57 yard run with 5:22 capped the scoring in the quarter.
Cody Waddell (Elkton, Md./Northeast) capped a 12-play drive in Lincoln's first possession of the second quarter with a 213 yard field goal, making the score 21-3. ECSU followed with 21 unanswered points to lead 42-3 at the half.
Lincoln got both of their touchdown scores in the fourth quarter. Croslin broke free for his record-setting 88-yard run and McCollum passed to Waddell for the two point conversion to make the score 49-11.
Dajaun Greene immediately followed that with his 89-yasrd kickoff return for ECSU's final score.
The Lions scored their final touchdown late in the quarter as McCollum capped off a 6-play, 65 yard drive with a 29-yard toss to Reddick.
Lincoln returns to action for their Homecoming game on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The Lions will host undefeated Virginia State University. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
