TICKET TO "BATTLE OF THE FIRST"

The game is fast approaching and the faithful are getting ready to start the football season here at Lincoln University. The Battle of The First will again be the first nationally televised collegiate football game this year. The teams will take to the field for the eighth edition of the annual game. The coaches are preparing to kick off their campaigns against their Chester County rivals in a game that means more than just a "W" in the stat sheet. Who has bragging rights and the ability to speak to prospective student athletes with authority? which alumni will be buying dinner and which alumni will be receiving a free meal? And finally which program will have the momentum that comes from a game that can define a season, determine the perception of thousands and create a positive buzz that means so much to the front porches of each institution - which is what athletic departments represent.

This game is more than sport. Yes its a competition between athletic teams and yes there is a ball in the center of the action. But, those who know Lincoln and Cheyney understand how important it is to say my school has won the "Battle of The First". They say it with pride because it speaks to the heart felt love each alum and friend of Lincoln and Cheyney have for their schools. This game we call a battle is a contest of spirit. Who will bring enough positive energy to lift a squad of young men to victory on Thursday night during prime time on national television? Bragging rights yes - pride and love without a doubt, but along with the thrill of victory comes a year of being able to say the question has been answered, who is first again?
