Box Score Virginia State University handed the Lincoln University women's volleyball team their fifth straight loss Monday night, defeating the Lions 3-0 at VSU's Multipurpose Center in Ettrick, Virginia.

The Trojans swept the match with scores of 25-7, 25-18 and 25-16.

The Lions fall to 5-20 overall and 4-11 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games. The team is 3-6 in North Division contests. The Trojans of VSU improve to 17-8 overall and 11-3 in league games. They are 7-1 in the North.

Atarah Lindsey (Detroit, MI/Romulus High School) led Lincoln with a match-high eight kills and 12 digs.Â
Aundrea Hall (Naples, Italy),
Mariah Russell (St. Louis, MO/Maplewood Richmond Heights HS) and
Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) had two kills apiece. Hall also had two aces.Â
Gecinda Turner (West Philadelphia, PA/Academy Park)Â led Lincoln with two blocks (one solo).

The Lions had an early 4-3 lead in the opening set as Russell and Hall each recorded a kill in the opening stages of the set. The Trojans however went on an 8-1 run to take control of the set and limited the Lions to just two points thefor the remainder of the set (a kill by King and an attack error on the Trojans) to take the early 1-0 lead with a 25-7 win in the opening set.

Lindsey had four of the Lions six kills in the second set as VSU overcame an early two-point deficit to pull away with the 25-18 win to go up in the match 2-0. Lindsey added four more kills in the third set as the Trojans led for all but the first two volleys, earning the 25-16 win and taking the match 3-0.

Deirdre Carter led VSU with eight kills.. Adriana Hazou had three aces and a match high 18 digs.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 when they travel into Philadelphia to take on the University of the Sciences. USciences has also lost five in a row going into Wednesday's contest.
