Lions Fall to Bulldogs in Final Home Game of Season

Box Score Freshman quarterback Jason Epps (Bowie, MD/Bowie High School) passed for 246 yards (20-for 37) and two touchdowns while rushing for 83 as the Lincoln University football team lost their final home game of the season to Bowie state University 41-23 Saturday evening at Lions stadium.

The Lions fall to 1-8 overall and 0-6 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games.  The Bulldogs of Bowie State improve to 5-3, 5-1 in CIAA play and 3-1 in the North Division.

Epps 329 total yards accounted for 92.4% of the Lions offense.  His 83 yards on the ground is a career-high.  Andre Price (Rialto,CA/Chabot College) snagged seven passes from Epps for 147 yards and one touchdown while Jody Thomas (Anaheim,CA/Marist College) caught a three-yard touchdown pass, his only reception on the evening.

Lincoln's defense struggled and for the second consecutive week allowed over 300 yards rushing, leading to a total of 641 yards of offense by the Bulldogs. Robert Chesson rushed for 184 yards to lead the Bulldogs ground game while quarterback Amir Hall completed 21-of-34 passes for 294 yards in the air.

A 29-yard field goal from Cody Waddell (Elkton, MD/Northeast High School) opened the scoring and staked the Lions to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter.   The Bulldogs regained the lead on a 22-yard run by Hall late in the first quarter and extended the margin to 14-3 by halftime.

Two more Bulldog touchdowns in the first 5:09 of the third quarter ran the score to 27-3 before the Lions broke their scoring drought, notching their first touchdown since they scored on their opening drive in the first quarter at Virginia State last week.

Stephen Scott (Baltimore City, Maryland/Bethel College) capped a 14-play 66 yard dive with a two-yard run to make the score 27-9.  The two-point conversion attempt failed.  Epps tossed three passes for first downs to push the ball into Bulldog territory and then the Lions took advantage of three pass interference penalties to get into the red zone, leading to Scott's short run for the score.

Bowie immediately struck back.  A 33 yard kickoff return by Mauric Williams gave the Bulldogs decent field position on their own 37-yard line. Three plays later they were in the end zone on a 32-yard toss from Hall to Daryl Jasper and the lead was now 34-9.

Epps tossed two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter as Lincoln attempted to comeback.  The Lions took the ball 96 yards on their opening drive in the final period, culminating with a three-yard toss to Thomas.  A 25-yard toss from Epps to Price provided the final touchdown of the day and made the final score 41-23.

Lincoln will close out their season on the road next Saturday, November 5, 2016 when they face Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina at 1:00 p.m.
