Lions Baseball Fall on the Road to Rams in Double Header

MOCKSVILLE, N.C. – The Lions opened CIAA play on the road against the Rams of Winston-Salem State and came up short in both games losing 10-0 in game one and 6-3 in game two at Mando Field.

Lincoln suffered a 10-0 shutout in the opening game of a four game weekend series against the Rams of Winston-Salem State University on Saturday, March 21st. The Lions were held to two hits by infielder Charles Gibbons (Brooklyn, NY/Genesee CC) and outfielder Latuan Boggerty (Dover, DE/Polytech HS).

Pitcher Terence Berry struck out four batters in five innings. Berry gave up five hits for four earned runs while walking six batters. Yasser Ortiz (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Juan Jose` Osuna) pitched in relief allowing two hits to the Rams. Winston-Salem scored four runs in the first inning, two runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth inning, and three in the sixth inning.

In game two of the double header Lincoln got off to a fast start taking an early 3-0 lead after a positive first inning. Terrell Berringer led off the inning with a double to right-center field. The Rams then walked the next two batters in Charles Gibbons (Brooklyn, NY/Genesee CC) and DeVante Parker (Bear, DE/Appoquinimink HS) putting runners in scoring position for Edwin Rivera (Bronx, N.Y./Gompers HS). Rivera singled up the middle scoring Parker for the Lions first run of the game. LU's next batter Gabriel Santiago (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) followed with an RBI double down the right field line that advanced the runners and scored Gibbons from second base.

With a 2-0 lead Lincoln continued their aggressive play at the plate with an RBI single to right field by Brandon Bolden (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro HS). Rivera crossed home plate off of Bolden's single as the Lions scored three runs on four hits in the opening inning against the defending CIAA Baseball Champions.

After an exciting first inning, the Lions offense fell into a slump and the Rams powered back and won 6-3. Winston-Salem State score one run in the second inning, took the lead with three runs in the fourth inning, and then sealed the come from behind victory with two runs in the sixth inning.

Sam Garmoe (Bowie, MD/Bowie HS) took the loss for the Lions after pitching four innings and striking out four batters. Garmoe gave up five hits for four earned runs while walking three Rams. Crae Watkins (Lorain, OH/Brookside HS) pitched in relief tossing two innings and striking out a pair.

Lincoln was led by Edwin Rivera (Bronx, N.Y./Gompers HS)'s hit, RBI, and run scored while Terrell Berringer added two hits. Lincoln fell to 1-8 overall and 0-2 in CIAA play after their double header loss to Winston-Salem State. The Rams improved to 20-6 overall and 5-1 in the CIAA.
