Burton Leads Lions Upset Win Over West Chester, 86-83

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman Quaman Burton (Richmond, VA/John Marshall HS) scored a game-high 18 points as the Lions upset West Chester University 86-83, on the road. Lincoln outscored West Chester 47-38 in the second half while holding them to 34% shooting from the field.

Both the Lions and the Golden Rams got off to a positive start in the first half of play. Lincoln shot 44% (13-29) from the field and converted on 84% (11-13) of their free-throws led by freshman Quaman Burton (Richmond, VA/John Marshall HS) off of the LU bench. Burton sparked the Lions in the first half with seven points and three rebounds. Sophomore Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College) added six points also from the bench while grabbing four rebounds and dishing off three assists.

West Chester found success with their defensive pressure forcing the Lions into 11 turnovers. The Rams shot 35% (14-39) from the field, but made 16-of-26 free-throws in the opening half and led 45-39 at the half.

The Lions defense held the Rams to 34% (9-26) shooting in the second half. West Chester also struggled from the charity stripe converting on 18-of-30 free-throw attempts. Senior Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) nailed 6-of-9 free-throws and scored 14 second half points for the Lions. Burton added 11 points in the backcourt alongside Aiken leading Lincoln to a non-conference victory.

The Rams took their final lead 77-74 with 4:32 left to play. Lincoln's Quaman Burton (Richmond, VA/John Marshall HS) and Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) responded with great play combining to score LU's final 12 points. Back-to-back layups by Aiken and Burton in the final moments propelled Lincoln to a 86-83 come from behind victory.

Four Lions reached double figure scoring in their first road victory of the season. Quaman Burton (Richmond, VA/John Marshall HS) recorded a career-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 6-of-8 made free-throws. Burton had four assists and seven rebounds in a breakout game for the freshman. Senior Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) scored 16 points with four assists, Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College) had 14 points with a team-high nine rebounds, and Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS) finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Senior Alonzo Murphy (Pittsburgh, PA/California University (PA)) led the defense with seven blocked shots and six rebounds.

Lincoln improves to 3-3 overall record and will host Fairmont State University on Saturday, November 30th at 4pm in Manuel Rivero Hall.
