Men’s Basketball Derailed By East Stroudsburg in Season Opener

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University's men's basketball team suffered a 92-72 loss in their season-opener against East Stroudsburg on Friday, November 14th as part of the CIAA-PSAC Challenge held in Manuel Rivero Hall. Sophomore Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College) led the Lions with 10 points converting on 4-of-5 shot attempts from the field.

The Lions got off to a sluggish start in their home opener against the Warriors. In the first half East Stroudsburg made 51% (20-39) of their shots from the field and forced Lincoln into 13 turnovers resulting into 21 points. Lincoln shot a low 35% (6-17) from the field but made 15-of 23 attempts from the free-throw line to remain in striking distance. Joshua Davis (Saginaw, MI/Louisburg Junior College) carried the Lions with six points in the first half while senior Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) and junior Rysheen Dorn (Philadelphia, PA/A.S.A. College) both had five points.

Lincoln's woes continued in the second half in their battle with the Warriors. The Lions struggled to cut into East Stroudsburg's double-digit lead but made solid improvements to their offense. The Lions won the battle in the paint outscoring the Warriors 19-16 and also held a 29-23 rebounding advantage. Seniors Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS), Alonzo Murphy (Pittsburgh, PA/California University (PA)), and Christopher Brand (Starkville, MS/Alcorn State University) dominated the interior combining for 17 total rebounds in the second half. Defensively, Lincoln forced eight turnovers and held the Warriors to 30% (11-36) shooting from the field. Lincoln's bench outscored East Stroudsburg's bench 27-23 led by freshman Jordan Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Springside Chestnut Hill Academy). Watson hit a pair of three-pointers in the final minutes of regulation as the Warriors downed the Lions, 92-72.

Jordan Davis led the Lions with ten points, three rebounds, and a block against the Warriors. The Lincoln bench was led by freshman Quaman Burton (Richmond, VA/John Marshall HS) and Rysheen Dorn (Philadelphia, PA/A.S.A. College) nine points apiece. Burton added two assists and a steal while Dorn made all three of his shots from the free-throw line. Jordan Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) added eight points and a steal followed by Alonzo Murphy (Pittsburgh, PA/California University (PA))'s seven points, six rebounds, and two blocks. Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS) and junior Kristopher Curry-Davis (Baltimore, MD/Penn State York University) both finished with six points and six rebounds.

Lincoln falls to 0-1 overall and will play Millersville University on Saturday, November 15th at 6 p.m. in the final game of the CIAA-PSAC Challenge in Manuel Rivero Hall.
