Lady Lions roll past Lady Wolves in Battle of the First

The 4x100 Relay team just missed the school record in blowing past Cheyney

CHEYNEY, Pa. –
The Lincoln University women's track & field team had several outstanding accomplishments on Thursday afternoon as the Lady Lions roared to a 54-45 win over Cheyney in the Battle of the First Dual meet at O'Shields-Stevenson Stadium.
 
“Today our ladies embodied the true essence of track & field as they ran for fun and personal bests,” Lincoln head coach Rafeal “Ray” Williams said. “We came out to the track with a sense of purpose and the result of great performances both on the track and in the field. We are looking forward to bringing a higher level of focus next week at the CIAA Championships."
 
The 4x100 Relay team of Imani Jones (Nutley, NJ/Bloomfield HS), Shavonna Jackson (Cleveland, Ohio/Warrensville HS), Alexis Cubbage (North Plainfield, NJ/Union Catholic HS) and Diane Lindsey (Lansing, Ill./Thornton Township HS) became an NCAA Division II and ECAC/IC4A Qualifier after blowing past Cheyney in 46.74 and just missed the school mark of 46.23 set in 1999 by Mea Williams, Jalima Levin, Tyra Kirkland and Rhondale Jones. In the field events, Lindsey sealed her second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship with a leap of 5.70 Meters in the Long Jump. Shannon Spaulding (Stamford, CT/Westhill HS) had a personal-best 59.92 in the 400 Meters.

Also capturing first at the Battle of the First meet were: Ashley Torres (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area HS) (1,500 Meters & 800 Meters), the 4x400 Relay team (Cubbage, Lindsey, Andrea Fields (Clinton, MD/Surrattsville HS) and Jackson), Tarayja Brooks (Kennett Square, PA/Kennett HS) (Javelin) and Lindsey (Triple Jump).
 
The Lady Lions will be in Baltimore, Md., on Saturday, April 13 at Coppin State University to participate in the Don Webster Invitational.
