Box Score LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University women's basketball team suffered from a cold-shooting second half as the Lady Lions had their Senior Day spoiled at the hands of Virginia State, 65-45, on Saturday afternoon in a CIAA Northern Division contest at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
“Going into the tournament, it's all about consistency,” Lincoln head coach
Jessica Kern said. “We still have a chance for ten wins. Today we just couldn't get things together and Virginia State came out in the second half and took advantage of our poor shooting.”
Tahlar McIntosh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Alvernia HS) paced the Lincoln offense with 16 points, including going 8-of-12 from the free-throw line. She pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) registered nine points as the Lady Lions (9-17 overall, 5-11 CIAA, 3-7 CIAA North) shot 29 percent (15-of-52).
Virginia State (13-13, 6-10, 5-5) opened the game on an 18-9 run after a bucket by Jasmine Stewart with 9:52 remaining, but Lincoln closed the half strong with a 15-9 run to cut the margin to 26-24 going into intermission.
The Lady Trojans, who were 9-of-19 from behind the 3-point line, took advantage of a cold-shooting Lady Lions team and put the game out of reach during the first 13 minutes of the second half with a 32-8 run to take a 58-32 advantage.
Yashica Blakney led four Virginia State players in double figures with 13 points. Dashae Jones had 12 points, while Lamesha Deal and Asyja Smith each had 10 points. The Lady Trojans were 24-of-47 from the field for 51 percent.
