Box Score Lincoln University, PA - The Lincoln University women's basketball team topped Nyack College in a 74-51 rout on Thursday evening. Nyack never led in the one-sided contest.
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) scored 13 points to lead the Lions, while
Mieana Gaines (Lincoln Park, MI/Southfield University Academy) had 11 points, and
Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) had 10 points.
The Lions raced out to a 15-5 advantage within in the first six and a half minutes of the game. Two quick three pointers by
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) helped ignite the early Lincoln run.
Nyack battled back, trimming the deficit to four points over the next few minutes of the half.
Lincoln regained a comfortable lead down the stretch of the opening period, creating a halftime score of 37-28.
The second half began with Nyack building some momentum in an attempt to get back into the game. They were able to cut the lead to just two points with 14:48 left to play.
The Warriors never got closer however, the Lions used the rest of the game to go on a 32-11 run to easily escape with a 23-point win.
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) led all Lincoln scorers with 13 points and also added four assists and four rebounds. She also did not commit a single turnover while handling the ball at the lead guard spot for most of the night.
Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) provided another impressive all-around performance with 10 points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals.
Mieana Gaines (Lincoln Park, MI/Southfield University Academy) posted a career-high 11 points with five-rebound effort.
Ball movement was a key factor for the Lions as they assisted on 19 of their 25 baskets. Seven different players scored at least six points against Nyack.
Lincoln out-rebounded Nyack with a 57-33 advantage. Their 24 offensive rebounds led to 16 second-chance points.
Their bench production also played a heavy role in the victory as they outscored Nyack's 33-9.
The Lady Lions now have a record of 5-3. Their next game will take place at home on December 14th against Mansfield University at 2:00 pm.
