Lions Volleyball Dominant With Straight Sweep Victory Over Bowie State

Box Score Bowie, MD - The Lions exploded for 28 kills to straight-sweep the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-21) on Thursday, October 4th. Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) and Briana McKellery (Odenton, MD/Arundel HS) each had eight kills to lead the Lions.
 
In the opening set, Briana McKellery (Odenton, MD/Arundel HS) led the attack with four kills against the Lady Bulldogs. Lincoln's Cynthia Johnson (Randallstown, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) added three kills while Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) put up six assists in the set. The Lions came out to make quick work of the Lady Bulldogs in the first set for a 25-17 win.
 
The Lions had a match-best 11 kills in the second set. Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) came out swinging it to drop five kills for a .429 average as the Lions took set two 25-22. Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) paced the Lions with eight assists and led defensively with five digs.
 
In set three, Lincoln forced Bowie State into seven errors while the Lions connected on eight kills for a 25-21 victory. Brianna McKellery came out to lead Lincoln in the set with three kills and Cynthia Johnson (Randallstown, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) pitched in with two kills. The Lions won the match 3-0 over the Lady Bulldogs picking up their first divisional victory of the season.
 
Defensively, Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) had 12 digs to lead the Lions while Kyra Orton (Detroit, MI/Renaissance HS) and Shanna King (Newark, NJ/University High School) had nine and eight digs respectively. King recorded a game-high 21 assists setting up the Lions. Cynthia Johnson (Randallstown, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) and Kyra Orton (Detroit, MI/Renaissance HS) each had two service aces and Briana McKellery (Odenton, MD/Arundel HS) had two solo blocks against the Bowie State defense.
 
The Lions improve to 2-9 overall and picked up their first CIAA Northern Divisional victory of the season. Lincoln will travel to Petersburg, VA on Monday, October 7th to tangle with the Trojans at 7 p.m. in their next match.
