Murfreesboro, NC - Lincoln University delivered a dominant performance against CIAA rival Chowan University on September 21
st. The Lions recorded their biggest victory over the Hawks, 6-0.
The Lions took just five minutes to score their first goal as
Tara O'Brien (Twickenham London, UK/St. Mark's Catholic School) finished expertly, following a
Dena Ingraham (Nassau, Bahamas/Kingsway Academy) assist.
Christian Harris (Rochester, NY/The Aquinas Institute) added the second goal at the 12
th minute, picking up a penetrating pass from midfield. Christian beat Chowan's defense and slipped the ball into an empty net from 4-yards out.
Lincoln continued to control the game with exchanges in the next three minutes that earned the Lions a free kick on the edge of the 18-yard box.
Tara O'Brien (Twickenham London, UK/St. Mark's Catholic School) netted her second goal of the afternoon in the 21
st minute. Lincoln raced to the locker room with a comfortable 3-0 lead and 7-4 shots advantage at the half.
Lincoln's
Christian Harris (Rochester, NY/The Aquinas Institute) rounded the Chowan goalkeeper for the Lion's fourth goal in the 61
st minute of the second period. A clearance from the heart of Lincoln's defense put Harris through on a one-on-one with Chowan's goalie. With the speed of light, Harris went around her and kicked the ball into the net.
Two minutes later,
Averri Glenn (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway HS) got on the score sheet.
Tamara Greene (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway HS) shot was parried away to corner.
Haley Hendricks (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) sent in a Beckham-like cross that was connected by Glenn for her first ever collegiate goal. "I am adapting to my new role and actually enjoying it. To score is amazing and confident booster," Glenn said of her new position and goal.
Another
Haley Hendricks (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) assist came in the 72
nd minute, this time, the beneficiary being
Christian Harris (Rochester, NY/The Aquinas Institute).
Chantel Baker (District Height, MD/Charles Herbert Flowers HS) charged on a Chowan defender that forced her to kick the ball to corner. Harris got on the end of Hendricks cross to complete her hat-trick.
Chloe Grice (Lancashire, UK/Runshaw HS) had six saves to earn her first shutout. Lincoln finished with 15 shots and Chowan recorded nine.
The Lions will continue on the road to play Mount Olive College tomorrow. Kickoff is at 1pm.
