Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – The Lincoln University women's basketball team dropped an 80-48 decision to the NCAA Division II defending national champion and 17
th-ranked Shaw Lady Bears in a CIAA contest at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on Monday night.
Alaysia Washington (Washington, DC/Friendship Collegiate Academy), who was 4-of-9 shooting, paced Lincoln (6-10 overall, 2-4 CIAA) with 11 points.
Tahlar McIntosh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Alvernia HS), who was named the CIAA Player of the Week earlier Monday, had nine points and
Krystal Fluellen (New York, N.Y./Richard Green HS) also added nine points as the Lady Lions shot 20 percent (14-of-69).
Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, NY/Monroe CC) led the way on the glass with a career-high 13 rebounds.
Shaw (13-2, 5-1) raced out to a 20-10 advantage after a Chelsey Pinkstaff 3-pointer with 11:04 remaining in the opening half. Lincoln battled back to cut the deficit to 20-14 after free throws by
Tahlar McIntosh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Alvernia HS) and
Mieana Gaines (Lincoln Park, Mich./Southfield HS), but the Lady Bears controlled the final nine minutes of the first half and took a 41-22 lead into the break.
Lincoln trimmed the margin to 41-27 after a McIntosh layup with 18:47 remaining, but that was as close as the Lady Lions would get.
The Lady Bears had three players in double figures, led by Ronika Ransford with 18 points and seven rebounds. Sequoyah Griffin scored 16 points and Adana David had 10 as Shaw was 27-of-64 from the floor for 42 percent.
Lincoln concludes its four-game road trip with a 1 p.m., contest against Bowie State University on Saturday, Jan. 19 in the CIAA Northern Division opener at A.C. Jordan Arena. To follow the action through live stats,
