Graves, DuBose lead Lady Lions in 5-set thriller

Lincoln topped Bowie State in a 5-set thriller to earn its first win of the season
Box Score BOWIE, Md. Jasmine Graves (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood HS) and Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) combined for 28 kills as the Lincoln University volleyball team climbed back into the CIAA Northern Division standings as the Lady Lions defeated Bowie State in a five-set thriller, 3-2, on Monday night.
 
The Lady Lions (1-7 overall, 1-6 CIAA, 1-3 CIAA North) dropped the first set, 25-22, but never let the lead slip away in the next two sets with 25-20 victories. The Lady Bulldogs (1-12, 1-5, 0-3) rallied in the fourth set to get a 25-22 win, forcing a fifth set. Lincoln broke open a close fifth set and didn't look back in a 15-12 victory.
 
Graves finished with 18 kills and had a .295 hitting percentage, while DuBose chipped in with 10 kills and had a .292 hitting percentage. Briana McKellery (Odenton, MD/Arundel HS) recorded nine assists and 11 digs. Five players reach double figures in digs as Erika Bell (Owings Mills, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute HS) led the way with a match-high 31. Sydney Cook (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) had 17 digs, while Jillian Lee (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Poly Institute) and Jasmine Dabney (Baltimore, MD/New Town HS) had 12 and 10 digs, respectively, as Lincoln won its first CIAA match since Oct. 27, 2010 when the Lady Lions blanked Saint Paul's, 3-0.
 
Briana Flowers paced Bowie State with 12 kills and Kasi Eisenzimmer added a match-high 28 assists and 17 digs. Marissa Martinez and Remi Anderson had 24 and 16 digs, while Paige McIntosh finished with 14 digs. Yaje Ngundam chipped in with 11 digs.
 
Lincoln steps out of CIAA play 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26 to play University of the Sciences at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
