O’Brien’s four goals give Lincoln shutout win over Ohio Valley

Box Score LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. Tara O'Brien (Twickenham London, UK/St. Mark's Catholic School) scored three goals in the first 20 minutes as the Lincoln University women's soccer team blanked Ohio Valley University, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Lincoln University Stadium.
 
O'Brien, who is just two goals shy of tying the single-season school record of 14 held by Stephanie Anderson (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area HS), opened the scoring in the 3rd minute as she launched a shot just outside the penalty area that beat Fighting Scots goalkeeper Mary Salas for the goal to give Lincoln a 1-0 lead.
 
The sophomore midfield struck with a pair of goals within a minute of each other to complete the hat trick.
 
In the 19th minute, O'Brien, who now has three hat tricks on the season, scored off an assist by Emily Woodruff (San Diego, CA/Madison HS) and in the 20th minute, O'Brien fired a free kick from about 30 yards out that beat Salas to the far post to give the Lady Lions a 3-0 advantage.
 
Her fourth goal of the afternoon came off an assist by Haley Hendricks (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) on a corner kick in the74th minute. Hendricks' long cross found the head of O'Brien to give Lincoln a commanding 4-0 lead.
 
Sima Sinforosa finished with four saves in goal for Lincoln (3-3), while Salas had one save and Brianna Rice added two saves for the Fighting Scots (1-6).
 
The Lady Lions out-shot Ohio Valley, 13-9, and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. With the victory, Lincoln improved to 2-1 at home and avenged an 8-0 loss last season to the Fighting Scots.
 
The Lady Lions travel 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28 to Salem, W.Va., to take on Salem International.
