Lady Lions get solid performances at the Saturday Night at the Armory

NEW YORK, N.Y.
– The Lincoln University women's track & field team got solid performances at the Division I meet Saturday at the Armory held at the Armory Track & Field Center.
 
“The Lincoln University Lions were honored to be invited to a quality Division I Invitational in New York this weekend,” Lincoln head coach Ray Williams said. “The team goals were to run for fun and personal bests, and learn to run from the front. The following achieved this goal while running personal best and season bests: Andrea Fields (Clinton, MD/Surrattsville HS) (60m), Tarem Cannonier (500m), Shannon Spaulding (Stamford, CT/Westhill HS) (400m and 200m), Miles Green (400m and 200m) and men's 4x400m relay team of Cannonier, Green, Abraham Noel and Kyle Edwards. In the field events, Courtney Malcolm (Rochester, N.Y./School of the Arts) improved on her season best in the long jump by two feet.”
 
In the women's event, Lincoln garnered 5 points to finished tied for 14th. Connecticut won the meet with 163 points, followed by Hampton (113), Penn (105.5), St. Peter's (56.5), Lafayette (50), Morgan State (31.5), Delaware State (29.5), Ramapo (25), Iona (22), Lock Haven (19), Cheyney (15), TCNJ (13), Fairleigh Dickinson (7) and District of Columbia (5).
 
In the 60m, Fields crossed the finish line 17th in 8.00, while Taylor Lyons (Oakland, Calif./Holy Names HS) was 30th in 8.30. Alexis Cubbage (North Plainfield, NJ/Union Catholic HS) placed 19th in the 400m in 1:00.38 and Shana Brown (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) was 33rd in 1:04.65. In the 200m, Spaulding and Cubbage were 30th and 31st, respectively in 27.09 and 27.21. Brown took 47th in 28.48.
 
Malcolm was seventh in the long jump at 5.23m, and in the shot put, Andrea Carter (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon HS) finished 20th in 9.26m, while Jataun Cobb (Aliquippa, Pa./Center Area HS) placed 21st in 9.19m.
 
The Lady Lions return to action Friday, Jan. 20 at the Collegeville Invitational at Ursinus College.
