Lincoln drops 6-0 decision to Salem International

SALEM, W.Va. — The Lincoln University men's soccer team fought hard, but fell on Thursday afternoon to Salem International University, 6-0.

The Tigers (3-2) opened the scoring in the first minute with a goal by Michael Galarza off an assist by Oscar Benitez. Eight minutes later, Galarza got his second goal from an assist by Dwayne Phidd. Salem International added a pair of goals in the first half by Lucas Zarpellon and Chris Balladares to take a 4-0 lead into the break.
Balladares and Zarpellon each had a goal in the second half to life Salem International to the win.
Christian Valdez (Washington DC/) finished with nine saves in goal for the Lions (0-5), while Vincent Sumbry (Washington, D.C./Benjamin Banneker Academic HS) had four. Juan Ameijeiras had one save for the Tigers.
Salem International had the edge in corner kicks, 5-0.
Lincoln continues action on the road with a 3:30 p.m., match on Friday, Sept. 23 in Vienna, W.Va., against Ohio Valley University.
