WILMINGTON, Del. — The Lincoln University men's soccer team had its home opener spoiled on Friday afternoon as the Lions fell to Washington Adventist, 9-1, at Horizon Park.
The Shock (3-5-1) led 5-0 at the half on goals by Phillip Malcom (two), Zerubbabel (two) and Allen Adeleke.
Washington Adventist extended the lead to 6-0 in the 47
th minute on a goal by Abanda Nkwanyuo, but the Lions came roaring back with a goal in the 53
rd minute.
On a free kick,
Shawn Huey (Jamaica/Evander Childs HS)'s ball found the head of
Federico Ghelli (Rome, Italy/Liceo Mons. Tozzi), who knocked it into the right corner to cut the deficit to 7-1.
However, the Shock got three straight goals by Nkwanyuo to get the win, 9-1.
Christian Valdez (Washington DC/) recorded 10 saves for the Lions (0-8), while Daniel Olofinsua and Jake Venolia each had one save for the Shock.
Lincoln returns to action 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9 in Murfreesboro, N.C., against Chowan.
