HAMPTON, Va. — The Lincoln University volleyball team opened play Friday at the CIAA Roundup by falling to Saint Augustine's College, 3-0, and battling hard in a 3-0 loss to Johnson C. Smith at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.
In the opening match against Saint Augustine's College, Lincoln (0-11 overall, 0-2 CIAA) dropped the match with scores of 25-14, 25-6, 25-12.
Zakiya Williams (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco Center for the Arts) led the way with five kills, while
Cynthia Johnson (Randallstown, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) had four.
Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) recorded nine assists along with four digs.
Jasmine Graves (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood HS) paced the defense with five digs as Johnson and Williams also had four.
Brittany Hicks led Saint Augustine's with nine kills and Kathryn Tokarski added eight. Roxanne Smith finished with 27 assists, while Keisha Parris had a game-high 10 digs.
In the second match, the Lady Lions fought hard in all three games, but lost by scores of 25-19, 28-26, 25-22.
Erin Rucker (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights HS) paced the offense for Lincoln with 11 kills, while Johnson registered seven. DuBose finished with 13 assists. Johnson led the Lady Lions defense with 25 of the teams 93 digs.
Erika Bell (Owings Mills, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute HS) and DuBose chipped in with 18 and 17 digs, respectively. Williams added 14 digs and Rucker had 10.
Sabrina Johnson led Johnson C. Smith with seven kills, while Kayla Bazemore had 16 assists and 14 digs. Sharelle Hatley had 15 digs on the defensive end.
The Lady Lions return to action in the CIAA Roundup on Saturday against Fayetteville State at 1 p.m., and Livingstone at 5 p.m., at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.
