Lincoln begins season at West Chester Classic

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. — A very young Lincoln University men's soccer team is eager to begin the season as the Lions travel to play in the West Chester University Classic.
 
“The guys have shown commitment and are ready to play,” Lions head coach N. Fabio Boateng said. “We are struggling with numbers, but that is the nature of a young team. Once the freshmen have been cleared by the NCAA, we will be ready to go. But I am excited about the group and the challenge ahead of us.”
 
Lincoln, which went 2-9 last season, returns five players, including Adedotun Osho. He was the second leading scoring with six points – two goals and a pair of assists. Joining Osho (midfielder) is Shawn Huey (Jamaica/Evander Childs HS) (Defender), Jeston Johnson (Queens, N.Y./MAST Campus Magnet) (Midfielder), Christian Valdez (Washington DC/) (Defender) and Michael Sangster (Trinidad, Port of Spain/Sacred Heart) (Forward).
 
The team features 11 newcomers, including goalkeeper Michal Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./West Philadelphia Catholic HS). Joining Williams is Terrell Carter (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney HS) (Midfielder), Joshpat Wahome, Trevor Kamhunga (Harare, Zimbabwe/Churchill HS) (Defender), Elias Besong (Richmond, Texas/Travis HS) (Forward), Vincent Sumbry (Washington, D.C./Benjamin Banneker Academic HS) (Midfielder), Domonic Wright (New Hempstead, N.Y./St. Joe's HS) (Forward), Federico Ghelli (Rome, Italy/Liceo Mons. Tozzi) (Midfielder), Ibidapo Oluwartimi (/) (Midfielder), Casey Williams (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon HS)(Defender) and Deidre McLeod (Plantation, Fla./Plantation HS) (Forward).
 
Lincoln opens play at the West Chester Classic 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3 against host West Chester. The Lions conclude the tournament 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 4 against California (Pa.).
 
The tournament at West Chester will feature a point system as each team will receive three points for a win. Ties will be broken by “sudden death” penalty kicks for tournament purposes only. Game will be officially recorded as a tie for records. The tiebreaker will be the following: Goal Differential, Most Goals, Least Goals Against and Coin Flip.
 
The first home contest for Lincoln is Sept. 30 against Washington Adventist University.
