Box Score
ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (February 8, 2011) — Lincoln University led briefly midway through the first half, but talented Elizabeth City State 16-7, 9-4 CIAA, 5-2 North) capitalized on its strong run and LU's shooting troubles in downing the Lady Lions, 56-39, at the R.L. Vaughn Center.
DeJuana Mosley (Chester, PA/Chester) led Lincoln (2-18, 1-12 CIAA, 1-6 North) with 10 points to get to 985 for her career and Mfon Ekanem (Springdale, Md./C.H Flowers HS) recorded a career-high 16 rebounds including seven on the offensive end. She now has two straight games with at least 15 rebounds. Brittney Waters (Capitol Heights, Md./Charles H. Flowers) contributed seven points and five boards.
After going up 10-8 8:37 into the game on a trey by Waters, Lincoln knocked down just one of its next 11 shots over the next six minutes, a jumper by Patrice Ferguson (Mitchellville, MD/Charles H. Flowers). The struggles allowed host ECSU to go ahead, 18-12, in that time. The Lady Lions trailed, 27-17, at halftime.
LU shot just 23.3 percent in the first stanza but remained in the contest because of its defense. Elizabeth City State was just 33.3 percent from the floor including 1-of-14 from behind the arc.
The momentum stayed decisively with the Lady Vikings to open the second period, beginning the half with a 20-2 stretch, Lincoln's only basket coming on a Mosley jumper.
Down 49-17, the Lady Lions offense assembled a rhythm. Ekanem got LU within 19 as the clock neared two minutes to go for her lone basket of the night. Overall, the blue and orange scored the final five points.
ECSU's Kenyatta Gill tallied a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, leading the Lady Vikings in each category. Stephanie Harper added 11 points.
