Sharay DuBose marched on toward 1,000 career points
Box Score

SALISBURY, N.C. (January 8, 2011) — After leading by as many as 11 points, the Lincoln University women's basketball team succumbed to Livingstone College (6-3, 1-1 CIAA) Saturday night at Trent Gym, 72-61.

Junior Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) tallied a team-high 16 points to bring her to 933 for her career while sophomore Brittney Waters (Capitol Heights, Md./Charles H. Flowers) continues to develop into an elite scorer with a 14-point evening. She now has four-straight games in double figures.

Rashida Elbourne led Livingstone with 19 points, and Jasmine Murray recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

Aided largely by an 8-0 run, the Lady Lions (1-8, 0-2 CIAA) took a 17-6 lead when Tahlar McIntosh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Alvernia HS) took a feed from Waters and connected on the jumper with 11:03 remaining. McIntosh finished with eight points.

At that point, the host Lady Blue Bears began chipping away and would go ahead, 22-21, on a jumper by Brittney Wright six minutes later. Livingstone held a 10-point advantage in the opening period before DuBose knocked down a three and McIntosh and Waters each made two free throws for a 33-30 score at the break.

In the early going of the second half, the Lady Lions could not handle the pressure defense put on by Livingstone and would turn the ball providing the momentum swing. In all, Lincoln turned the ball over 39 times while the Lady Blue Bears had just 19 giveaways. Ultimately, that proved the difference with Livingstone holding a 27-14 edge in points off of turnovers.

The game remained so competitive because the Lady Lions shot more efficiently than their counterparts, a credit to the LU defense. Lincoln shot 42 percent on 48 attempts whereas Livingstone was just 29.1 percent on 79 tries. DeJuana Mosley (Chester, PA/Chester) paced LU with nine boards as the Lady Lions held a 53-51 edge on the glass.
