PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Lincoln (4-8) dropped a pair of 8-0 games to Philadelphia University on Thursday afternoon.
Lincoln played well against a strong Philly U. (9-7) team, and coach Lynsey Grace was pleased with the effort.
"They played great," she said. "I was really proud of them."
Game One
Lincoln was no-hit by Ali Schmidt while the Philadelphia bats tallied nine hits and eight runs off of Lincoln starter Taylor Hines (Beachwood, OH, Beachwood), but lost in those numbers was a solid defense and pitching, especially early.
Katie Renner singled in Jen Richard in the bottom of the first to give Philly U. 1 1-0 lead, proving to be more than enough of a cushion. The Lady Rams added three in the third and four in the fourth.
For Lincoln, Hines took the loss in four innings of work.
Game Two
Trailing 2-0 in the second inning, Erin Rucker (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights HS) (Shalher Heights, Shalher Heights ) and Mariah Liberty (Waterbury, Vt./Harwood Union HS) (Vermont) got injured and, an because of a lack of an available substitute, Lincoln had to forfeit the remainder of the ball game. Despite just the 2-0 difference, per NCAA rules, the final score was called 8-0, but the forfeit does not count against the losing school's record.
