LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. — Eighteen first-half points by DeJuana Mosley (Chester, PA/Chester) (Chester, Pa./Chester) was not enough Saturday night, as the Lincoln University women's basketball team fell, 77-60 to Shaw University Saturday Night at Manuel Rivero Hall.
Mosley finished with 20 points, an impressive feat after missing Wednesday's game with the flu. Chanelle Harris (Philadelphia, PA/Penn Wood) (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Wood) had 14 points on a season-high three 3-pointers to go along with four assists. Sharay Dubose was also in double figures with 12. Mfon Ekanem (Springdale, Md./C.H Flowers HS) (Sprindale, Md./Charles H. Flowers) led LU with seven rebounds
Quaticqua Johnson had a game-high 22 points for Shaw. Janelle Harrison and Tanisha McGaughey contributed 18 and 16, respectively. Shandrea Thomas hauled down seven rebounds.
With the loss, Lincoln falls to 2-14 while Shaw improves to 11-6.
The Lady Lions started quickly Lincoln went on an 8-0 spurt to nullify a 15-10 deficit capped by a lay-up by senior point guard Harris with 12 minutes remaining in the opening period.
Shaw came within two, but a pass from Nicole Wilmore (Baltimore, MD/Pikesville) (Baltimore, Md./Pikesville)to Ivana Whitfield (Windsor, CT/Metropolitican LC) (Windsor, Conn./Metropolitan LC) underneath gave Lincoln a 30-26 lead with 6:45 remaining in the first period. Danielle Smallwood (Philadelphia, PA/West Catholic) hit a 3 on the Lady Lions' ensuing possession to go back up six points, equaling LU's largest lead of the game.
In the closing minutes of the half, McGaughey drained a 3 for a 38-36 Shaw lead with 1:06 left in the first half and would go into the locker room up, 42-36.
Mosley had 18 points for Lincoln in the opening period, but Johnson had 17 for SU.
Early in the second period, Harris knocked down two free throws to make it a 47-41 game in Shaw's favor. Harris' second three of the year pulled the Lady Lions within three at 50-47 with 13:50.
But that was the closest the Lions would get on the evening as Lincoln shot just 28 percent in the second half.
