Men show heart in weekend with depleted roster

MURFREESBORO, N.C. — Suffering from injuries, the Lincoln University men's soccer team headed south to North Carolina to compete at a tournament hosted by Chowan University.

Traveling with eight players, the men displayed energy, courage and pride on both days, but in the end, they were overmatched in both matches, falling to Chowan 5-0 on Saturday, and Washington Adventist, 4-0 on Sunday.

With the losses, the Lions sit at 0-7.

Against Chowan, Lincoln was led by attackers Seye Adekanye (Lagos, Nigeria/) (Lagos, Nigeria) and Yannick Goue (Ivory Coast/Lycee Classipue d'Abidjan) (Ivory coast), who had three shots apiece. Andre WIlkinson (Bridgetown, Barbados) continued his sensational year with another 15 saves.

On Sunday against Washington Adventist, Lincoln fell into a 4-0 deficit before injuries forced them to forfeit the contest.

Hoping for friendlier confines, the men return home Wednesday, Sept. 30 to face Chestnut Hill College at 4 p.m.
