Cook socks homer in setbacks against Virginia State

PETERSBURG, Va. (April 12, 2009) – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania softball team concluded its weekend jaunt through Virginia with a 10-2 and 8-0 loss to Virginia State University Sunday afternoon at VSU Field (GAME 1 BOXSCORE)  (GAME 2 BOXSCORE)

The Lady Lions battled the Lady Trojans before falling. In the opening game, the Lady Lions had three consecutive hits to begin the third inning. Trailing 2-0, Sharell McMillan (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) continued her torrid trip by blasting a two-out triple. McMillan scored on a wild pitch. Tanina Cook (Landover, MD/Charles Herbert Flowers) belted her first career home run to tie the score, 2-2. DeJuana Mosley (Chester, PA/Chester) followed with a single.

In the nightcap, Lincoln only managed a pair of singles off the bats of Sharay DuBose (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) and Sasha Evans (Hampton, VA/Phoebus). Pitcher Britny Adams struck out two batters. Lincoln and Virginia State were scoreless until the Lady Trojans struck for a few runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Lincoln returns to action Tuesday afternoon when it hosts West Chester in a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m. The LU-WCU contest is a makeup from March 9.
