Lincoln falls to Goldey Beacom in doubleheader

OXFORD, PA. (March 22, 2009) – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania softball team lost a doubleheader to visiting Goldey Beacom College, 12-1 and 6-0 Sunday afternoon at the Oxford Athletics Association softball complex. (GAME 1 BOXSCORE) (GAME 2 BOXSCORE)

Freshman Charisse Colston (Oakwood Village, OH, Bedford) added three more hits to raise her season total to 17. She Lincoln's only hit in the opening game. Colston's fourth inning single drove in her 18th run of the season. Colston is batting .630 through 10 games. Sharell McMillan (Levittown, PA, Harry S. Truman), who walked to begin the end, crossed the plate on Colston's single.

Colston had Lincoln's only two hits of the second game. She tripled in the first inning and ripped a single that was trailed by a comet's trail through the middle in the third inning. Also reaching base for the Lady Lions in the second game was Tanina Cook (Landover, MD, Charles Herbert Flowers) (safe on an error), Britny Adams (Bloomingdale, MI, Bloomingdale) (walk) and Angelle Green (Yeadon, PA, Penn Wood) (walk).

Lincoln flashed some good defense in the second game. One of the defensive highlights was catcher Sasha Evans (Hampton, VA, Phoebus), who successfully blocked the plate to tag out a Goldey Beacom runner at home. Cook, Colston, DeJuana Mosley (Chester, PA, Chester) and McMillan were fantastic in the infield making a number of difficult plays look easy.

Lincoln returns to action Tuesday afternoon when it travels to Rosemont College in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
