OXFORD, PA. (March 12, 2009) – Lincoln University of Pennsylvania sophomore DeJuana Mosley (Chester, PA, Chester) drove in a career-high three runs and freshman Charisse Colston (Oakwood Village, OH, Bedford) continued her blistering start by collecting three hits during a pair of defeats to visiting Philadelphia University, 16-1 and 15-4 Thursday afternoon at Oxford A.A. Field. (GAME 1 BOXSCORE) (GAME 2 BOXSCORE)
A day after hitting for the cycle, Colston had Lincoln's only hit of the first game. She crossed the plate when Melissa Carr (Hudson, NY/Redemption Christian Academy) drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fourth inning. Colston followed up that effort by hitting a pair of singles into centerfield in the second game.
Colston has reached base safely in 11 of her 14 plate appearances so far this season. Colston leads Lincoln in hits (10), batting average (.769) and runs scored (nine) through four games.
Meanwhile, Mosley had a day to remember by going 2-for-2 in the second game. Each of her hits produced runs. Mosley's two-run single in the bottom of the first plated Colston and Adams. That gave Lincoln a 3-0 advantage. Her second hit also scored Colston in the bottom of the third inning. Freshman Britny Adams (Bloomingdale, MI, Bloomingdale) made her first career start pitching and struck out the first batter she faced.
Defensively, sophomore Sasha Evans (Hampton, VA, Phoebus) made a sterling catch of a foul pop-up and blocked the plate like a veteran major league catcher to prevent a run from scoring. Senior Tanina Cook (Landover, MD, Charles Herbert Flowers) made a few solid catches at shortstop and pitched a clean and quick fifth inning.
Sophomore Jasmine Baxter (Washington, D.C., McKinnley Tech)drove in Lincoln's first run of the second game by drawing a bases-loaded walk.
The Lady Lions return to action Saturday afternoon when they host Saint Paul's College in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Oxford A.A.
