Volleyball comes up short at Shaw after strong start

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 20, 2008) – After a fast start, the Lincoln University of Pennsylvania volleyball team ran out of steam in a 3-1 defeat to host Shaw University Saturday morning. The Lady Lions won the first game 25-22 before losing 25-12, 25-9, 25-13 to fall to 2-10 overall. (BOXSCORE)

Donneisha Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Harold S. Vincent) led Lincoln with10 kills. Lindsey Wilson (Aliquippa, PA/Aliquippa) added five kills as Lincoln finished with 18 kills for the game. Lia Hubbard (Farrell, PA/Farrell) had a game-high 15 assists to go along with five digs. Jordean Matthews (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) contributed six digs and four blocks.


Shaw (1-8 overall) earned its first victory of the season behind the efforts of Monica Grimmage (16 kills) and Nikita Grant (12 kills, eight kills). Nia Bailey posted 22 assists and five service aces.


Lincoln will return to action Tuesday night when it travels to Baltimore to face Goucher College.
