Cook and Blanchard named to all-tournament team

BRYN MAWR, PA. (September 2, 2007) – Lincoln University of Pennsylvania freshman forward Chiamaka Opara (Central Islip, NY/Central Islip) scored her first career goal during a 7-1 defeat to Bryn Mawr College in the consolation game of the Bryn Mawr tournament Sunday afternoon.
 
Opara's goal came in the 28th minute for the Lions (0-4). Freshman Shaynita Blanchard (Portmore, Jamaica/Archbishop Carroll, DC) recorded the assist on Opara's goal. Blanchard and junior Tanina Cook (Landover, MD/Charles H. Flowers) were named to the all-tournament team. Cook, playing her second career game in goal, made 17 saves for Lincoln.
 
During the two-day tournament, Cook shined in goal by making 35 saves.
 
Against Bryn Mawr, junior sweeper Collene Cumberbatch (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) turned in a solid performance as did sophomore Adaeze Chikwen (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area). Senior Salena Young (Trenton, NJ/Notre Dame) and sophomore Leslie Jefferson (Harve de Grave, MD/Aberdeen) also made contributions for the Lions, who were playing their third consecutive match.
 
Bryn Mawr got goals from six different players to even its record at 1-1 on the season. The Owls scored the first three goals of the match before settling for a 4-1 halftime advantage. Lincoln and Bryn Mawr will meet again on Sunday September 30 at Lincoln.
 
Lincoln will have no time to rest as it continues its packed early season schedule with an away match against Penn State-Abington Tuesday afternoon beginning at 3:00 p.m. It will be the first meeting in school history between Lincoln and PSU-Abington.
