Opara and Cook key tie against PSU-Harrisburg

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (September 19, 2007) – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team battled Penn State-Harrisburg to a 1-1 draw Wednesday afternoon. (BOXSCORE)

The tie was Lincoln's second straight and its third in its last four games. During its current six-game home-stand, Lincoln has a 0-1-3 record.

For the third time in four games, Lincoln scored first as freshman Chiamaka Opara scored off a scramble in front of the net in the third minute of the second half for a 1-0 advantage. It was Opara's team-leading fifth goal of the season. Freshman Shaynita Blanchard recorded the assist on Opara's goal.

Blanchard started the play by taking a direct kick. Her initial kick bounced off of the PSU-Harrisburg wall of defenders and came right back to her. With a second chance, Blanchard placed a perfect ball into the box where Opara's foot found the back of the net.

However, PSU-Harrisburg battled back to pull even in the 47th minute following Katelyn Roberts' breakaway goal. Roberts had two additional chances to give PSU-Harrisburg the lead for good. However, junior keeper Tanina Cook made two spectacular saves in the final 10 minutes to keep the score tied.

Lincoln returns to action on Sunday September 23 when it hosts Columbia Union College beginning at Noon. It will be the fifth of six straight home matches for the Lions.
