Dorian Long

Dorian Long begins his first season as an assistant men’s basketball coach on Head coach Doug Overton’s staff at Lincoln University in 2016-17.
 
Long returns to the Philadelphia area after having spent the previous two seasons as Director of Basketball Operations for Division I James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Last season, the Dukes went 21-11 with an 11-7 conference record. In his first season with the Dukes, Long helped JMU claim a share of the CAA regular-season crown for the first time since the 1999-00 season, tallying a 19-14 record that included a 12-6 mark in conference play.

Prior to joining the JMU staff, Long spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach for Washington College, a Division III institution in Chestertown, Md. In his two seasons at WC, he coached a pair of players to All-Centennial Conference teams, with a Second Team selection in 2012-13 and an Honorable Mention pick this past season.   Long was elevated to Associate Head Coach at Washington College prior to his being hired at James Madison.  Prior to Washington College, Long was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Neumann University, for four seasons, spanning 2008-12.
 
He was responsible for recruiting, scouting, player development and academic progress while organizing and directing all team and individual summer camp operations. He also successfully recruited and developed 5 All-Conference Players and 4 one thousand point scorers.  In addition, Long has been a co-President and head coach of a youth club team, The Whiz Basketball Club, since 2009.  The Whiz organization has served as an AAU/mentoring program that both Umar Saaba, a sophomore player at Lincoln and Gene Lett, Lincoln’s  graduate assistant coach both played for.
 
Long has directed and coached at numerous camps/clinics throughout the Atlantic region including JMU Elite Camps, Drexel Basketball Camp, UPenn, SJU, Herb Magee Camps, and has fulfilled numerous roles with The Hoop Group Organization. 
 
Long served roles as a student assistant coach and assistant coach at Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill, Pa., and completed an internship at Saint Joseph's University, working closely with both the men's and women's basketball programs. In addition, he volunteered in the Yeadon Athletic Association as an assistant coach for grade-school athletes.
 
He is a 2010 graduate from Neumann, where he earned a bachelor of science in sport management.
