Corey Lowery was named Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Lincoln University in May 2020, and brings over 22 years of coaching experience to Lincoln, including 14 years as a Head Coach.
Prior to Lincoln University, Lowery was Director of Player Development and Coaching Consultant at Saint Peter’s University under Shaheen Holloway. Lowery’s responsibilities included assistance with the day to day operations of the Men’s Basketball program, assistance with scouting reports, film break down, practice planning, game planning, collaboration with Academic Advisors, academic mentoring, consulting about recruits and social development of student-athletes on the Men’s Basketball team.
His time at Saint Peters was highlighted by advancing to the semifinals of the pandemic shortened MAAC tournament in the 2019-20 season.
The Peacocks as a team were led the MAAC in blocked shots and rebounding defense, and was second in field goal percentage defense in 2018-19, while boasting a top 5 mid-major recruiting class going into the 2019-20 season.
The 2019-20 season boasted three freshmen that made the MAAC All-Rookie team, which was a MAAC record. It also boasted the Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of Year. Two players from the Peacocks made 3rd Team All-Conference as well. As a team the Peacocks finished first in FG percentage defense, secong in points allowed (62.4), first in rebounding margin, and first in block shots in the MAAC.
Prior to Saint Peter’s University, Lowery spent six years as head men’s basketball Coach at Essex County College. The Wolverines won six consecutive GSAC Championships, five consecutive Region XIX tournament championships, five consecutive District 12 Championships, five consecutive appearances in the NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament, finished as National Champion Finalist in 2014 and made it to the Final Four in another season.
Under Lowery, the Wolverines were dominant in Region XIX play, owning a conference record of 88-6, while posting an overall record of 157-35. Lowery recruited three players that earned All-American honors; four first team All-Region players, six second team All-Region players, and five MVPs of the Region XIX tournament. He was named Region XIX Coach of the Year and District 12 Coach of the Year five consecutive times, along with District 12 Coach of the Year. Lowery graduated 32 players that went on to play at the Division I and II level.
In his eight years as a Junior College Head Coach, Lowery holds an overall record of 245-63; has a conference record of 152-19; has won nine GSAC championships; six Region XIX championship; two Region XIX runner-up finishes; and six National Championship Tournament runs boasting Final 4 finishes in 2014 and 2016 and National Champion Finalist in 2014.
Lowery has taken two different Junior College programs (Middlesex C.C and Essex C.C) to the National Tournament and has led both programs to Top two national rankings. As Head Coach at Middlesex County College, Lowery led his team to three straight GSAC championships, a Region XIX championship in 2008, and his team made it to the Elite Eight in the Division III NJCAA National tournament in 2008. During the 2008 season Lowery’s team accomplished the #1 ranking in the nation. In that same year Lowery was also named Region XIX and GSAC Coach of the Year.
He attended Rutgers-Newark University and was a combo guard for the Scarlet Raiders men’s basketball team. He graduated in 1998 with a BA in Sociology. After graduating from Rutgers, he continued his education at Saint Peters University and earned his MA in Education Administration and Supervision in 2002.
Lowery is married to Kimberly Lowery and has two beautiful daughters Cameran and Caylin Lowery. He strongly believes, “success comes to those who have faith and the ability to attain the necessary resources to execute a well thought out plan.” He also states, “goals without a plan and work ethic are simply a wish.”
