Wilmington, DE – March 19, 2026 – The Lincoln University (PA) softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom College on Thursday afternoon at the Jackson Complex. The Lightning took Game 1, 9-1, before edging the Lions 2-1 in a tightly contested second game.
Game 1: Goldey-Beacom 9, Lincoln 1
Lincoln (5-14) picked up an early spark in the second inning when Hayley Lawson (Laurel, DE) doubled to right center, driving in Amari Frederick (Woodbridge, VA) to tie the game at 1-1.
Goldey-Beacom responded quickly, scoring three runs in the second inning and adding one in the third to take control. The Lightning continued to capitalize on opportunities, scoring twice in both the fifth and sixth innings to extend the lead.
Lawson led the Lions with an RBI double, while Aliya Rose (Lutherville, Md./Maryvale Preperatory) and Samiah Smith (Greenbelt, MD) each recorded hits. Lincoln was limited to three hits in the opener and committed three defensive errors.
Ashlynn Sherman (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville High School) took the loss in the circle, while Breylin Gamble (Menifee, CA) provided relief work.
Game 2: Goldey-Beacom 2, Lincoln 1
The second game proved to be a much closer battle as both teams combined for 16 hits in a pitcher's duel.
Lincoln struck first in the opening inning when Ashlynn Sherman (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville High School) delivered an RBI single up the middle, scoring Ajah McDowell (Atlanta, GA/Druid Hills High School) for a 1-0 lead.
Goldey-Beacom answered in the third inning on a sacrifice bunt and tied the game at 1-1. The contest remained deadlocked until the bottom of the seventh, when the Lightning walked it off with an RBI single to secure the 2-1 victory.
The Lions tallied eight hits in Game 2, led by a two-hit performance from McDowell. Lawson, Cathey, Sherman, Smith, and Bullock each contributed hits in the effort.
Jordin Cathey (Long Beach, CA/Gahr High School) was strong in the circle, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing just two runs while keeping Lincoln in position throughout the game.
Despite the tough results, the Lions showed resilience in Game 2, battling into the final inning before the walk-off finish.
