Lincoln University, Pa. – The Lincoln University (Pa.) softball team split its doubleheader against Mansfield University on Saturday, falling 4-1 in the first game before rallying for a thrilling 10-9 extra-inning victory in game two.
Game 1: Mansfield 4, Lincoln (Pa.) 1
Lincoln (6-9) struggled to generate offense in the opening game, managing just one run on four hits. Mansfield (2-4) took control early, scoring three runs in the third inning and adding an insurance run in the sixth to secure the win.
T. Brown (2-2) took the loss for the Lions, pitching six innings while allowing four runs on eight hits. A. Sherman provided the lone RBI for Lincoln with a run-scoring single in the fourth inning, but the Lions were unable to mount a comeback.
Game 2: Lincoln (Pa.) 10, Mansfield 9 (8 innings)
The Lions bounced back in dramatic fashion in game two, outlasting the Mountaineers in a high-scoring, back-and-forth battle that required extra innings.
Lincoln started hot with a three-run first inning and maintained the lead for most of the game. Mansfield, however, responded with a three-run third and a two-run fourth to take a brief lead. The Lions answered with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth, setting up a tense finish.
After Mansfield tied the game in the sixth and took the lead in the eighth, Lincoln refused to back down. The Lions plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth, capped off by a clutch walk-off hit from A. Sherman to seal the 10-9 victory.
Sherman played a pivotal role, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. I. Richardson added a triple and an RBI, while A. Stringer went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. J. Cathey (1) earned the save, closing out the game with three strong innings of relief.
