Lions Drop Road Battle at UMES, Focus Shifts to Shaw Matchup

Princess Anne, MD – January 2, 2025 – The Lincoln University (PA) women's basketball team dropped a tough 55-39 road game to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) at the Hytche Center. Despite a solid effort, the Lions were unable to overcome offensive struggles in the second half.

Senior Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) led Lincoln with 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals, while senior Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) added 8 points, 6 rebounds, and a steal. Junior Kaziah Akinniyi (Baltimore, Md./Poly) contributed 8 points, including a key three-pointer, and sophomore Riley Holliday (Baltimore, MD/) made an impact on the boards with 10 rebounds and 6 points.

The Lions started strong, keeping it close with a 14-13 deficit after the first quarter and entering halftime down 25-19. They rallied in the third quarter, outscoring UMES 17-11, but struggled in the final period, scoring just 3 points as UMES pulled away.

Despite forcing 19 turnovers and generating 18 points off those turnovers, Lincoln couldn't capitalize offensively, shooting just 25.0% from the field and 8.3% from beyond the arc.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in CIAA play. They'll look to bounce back in their next game against Shaw University on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 6 p.m. at Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, DE, one of Lincoln's temporary home venues this season.
