Lions Fall Short In Trip To New Jersey

Rutherford, NJ  - September 7, 2024 – Lincoln University (PA) women's volleyball had a tough finish in their season opener Saturday, losing to Pace in three sets and Felician in three sets.

It was still a strong display by the Lions, who battled despite losing to a pair of talented teams.

Match 1 Recap

Lincoln (PA) gave Pace all it could handle during the match, but eventually fell short in straight sets: 25-14, 25-7, 25-18. Kendra Williams (Dover, Del./Dover) (six kills), Elise Carter () (three kills) and Kenyatta Williams () (two kills) lifted the Lions in the offensive department, while Audreynette Lydgate () (two blocks) and Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech/) (five digs) did their part defensively for Lincoln (PA.).

The team finished with a total of 15 kills during the match and had more blocks than their opponent with pace finishing with one block compared to the Lions three.

Match 2 Recap

A few hours later, Lincoln (PA.) returned to the court and was able to keep the game close in the first set as the game stood at 9-13 in the opening minutes. Elise Carter () was a key part of the team's strong start, as she had three of her six total kills in this set.

The team was led on offense by Elise Carter () (six kills) followed by Kendra Williams (Dover, Del./Dover) with two kills. On defense the team was led by Junior Laila Newborn (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) (four blocks) and Janaa Smith (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) (two blocks), while sophomore Janiece Lumpkin (Middletown, DE/Middletown HS) led the team in digs with 15.
 
Felician was able to gain control during the last two sets which led to a final straight set score of: 25-13,25-14,25-17.

What's Next

The Lincoln University (PA) women's volleyball team will head to Philadelphia, PA on Tuesday, where they will take on Jefferson University in a non-conference affair starting at 6 p.m.
