Clarion, PA – September 5, 2024 – The Lincoln University (PA) football team lost to Clarion Thursday afternoon, 9-20, in what marked the start of the team's season.
The Lions defense played a big role in tonight's game, holding its opposition to just one touchdown each quarter through the first 3 quarters and a complete shutout in the fourth quarter. Junior
Maleek Robinson () recorded a team high of 9 tackles.
Lester McCoy (Clayton, N.J./Clayton High School) was right behind him with 7 total tackles along with 2 sacks.
On the offensive end of the ball,
Malachi Langley (Chester, Pa./Chester High School) had 4 receptions for 63 yards leading the team in receiving yards, while
Zyaire Tart (Camden, N.J./Middletown High School) was not too far behind him also reeling in 4 receptions for a total of 55 yards, with his longest catch being a 29-yard reception. Junior
Isaiah Freeman (Chester, Pa./STEM Academy High School) completed 15 passes for a total of 182 yards while also rushing for a touchdown early in quarter 3.
Lincoln (PA.) played well in the fourth quarter as Clarion was unable to score in the closing minutes. Clarion would eventually close out the game keeping Lincoln (PA.) from scoring in the final quarter. Lincoln had a 20-play drive in the quarter that ended with a field goal in the game's final moment as they came up just short of scoring a touchdown on the drive.
A great chance to bounce back presents itself when the Lions head to Charlotte, NC to play Johnson C. Smith University next Saturday at 1 p.m.
