Salisbury, NC – December 22, 2024 – The Lincoln University (PA) women's basketball team battled through double overtime but fell short in a hard-fought 78-74 loss to Livingstone College at William Trent Gymnasium. Despite the setback, the Lions had standout performances that showcased their resilience and determination.
Senior Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) led the Lions with an exceptional effort, scoring a game-high 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. She added 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and a block in her 48 minutes on the court. Senior Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) was equally impressive, pouring in 20 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and dishing out 3 assists while adding 4 steals. Sophomore Anyia Gibson (Edgewood, MD/) provided a crucial spark off the bench, contributing 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks in a strong two-way performance.
The Lions started strong, taking a 17-10 lead in the first quarter, but Livingstone clawed back with a dominant fourth quarter to force overtime. Lincoln's defense forced 23 turnovers, converting them into 23 points, while the team dominated inside with 46 points in the paint. However, Livingstone capitalized on free throws and three-point shooting in critical moments to seal the win.
The Lions (5-8 overall, 2-2 CIAA) will regroup as they prepare for their next non-conference matchup against University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, MD, on Tuesday, January 2, 2025, at 7 p.m..
