SPARKILL, NY (September 15, 2023)- The Lincoln University Lions volleyball team traveled to St. Thomas Aquinas University for their Friday tri-match which also featured Felician University. The Lions fell short of a victory in both contests.

GAME 1 v. St. THOMAS AQUINAS
- The Lions and Spartans seemed to be equally matched at the start of set 1, going point for point until the hosting Spartans pulled away on two 4-0 runs.
- Lincoln capitalized off of several St. Thomas Aquinas errors, allowing them to close the scoring gap.
- Although they battled hard, Lincoln fell in set 1, 25-22.
- Set 2 did not see a Lions rhythm, as the Spartans took the set, 25-12.
- The Lions kicked their game into high gear for set 3.
- Pulling away early, Lincoln maintain their lead for majority of the set.
- Securing 11 points off of errors, Lincoln took set 3, 25-23
- Despite holding the lead early in the set, several errors in the final few plays of the matchup ruled in favor of the hosting Spartans.
- Overall, the Lions fell short of a win with a score of 3-1.

GAME 2 v. FELICIAN
- Lincoln fought hard in their final contest of the day, going 5 sets against the Golden Falcons.
- In addition to several lead changes in set 1, the Lions took a 26-24 victory off of consecutive Felician errors. Â
- Sets 2 and 3 ruled in favor of the Golden Falcons with a score of 25-14 and 25-19 respectively.
- In a set filled with runs, Lincoln jumped ahead when it counted to take the lead.
- Five consecutive errors, followed by an ace and kill by Erica Taylor (Romulus, MI/Romulus Summit Academy), sealed the deal for a 26-24 set 4 win for Lincoln.
- The Lions battled to control the final set to take the overall win, but was not successful, take a 15-9 set 5 loss.
LION LEADERS
- Madison Hill (Laurel, MD/Reservoir HS) and Erica Taylor (Romulus, MI/Romulus Summit Academy) were equally matched controlling the tri-match for the Lions with 18 kills each over St. Thomas Aquinas and Felician.
- Tallying 32 digs for Lincoln was Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech/).
- Stepping in for the Lions with 43 assists against St. Thomas Aquinas and Felician was Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown).
