Softball Wins First Extra-Inning Game In Decade, Snaps 14-Game Skid To Split With Shaw

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania softball program finally tasted victory after a month of losses, earning its first win in a game that went into extra innings with an 8-7 triumph in eight followed by a defeat, 8-6.

Lincoln (PA) Top Performers:

  • Chloe Foster (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) was the recipient of the pitching win, tossing three innings without an earned run (one unearned) with a pair of strikeouts on top of getting two outs in the nightcap.

  • Kevyn Jones (Baltimore, Md./Paul Laurence Dunbar) piled on a team-high four hits and three runs scored plus an RBI.

  • Leinayiah Jex (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) reached safely twice and stole three bags to pace the Lions on the basepaths.

  • Doubles were smashed by Tia Brown (Newark, N.Y./Newark), Jazmin Lewis, and Kailee Richmond (Womelsdorf, Pa./Conrad Weiser) while Lewis lofted a sacrifice fly and Brown tossed 3.1 innings to begin the front half of the twin-bill, whiffing four Bears with two earned runs allowed.

Notes:

  • That was the program's first extra-inning victory since nearly ten years ago to the day, last triumphing during free softball when they defeated Bowie State 13-11 on April, 13 2013 to clinch a spot in the CIAA Tournament.

  • The Lions broke out of their extended 14-game skid with its extra innings win in game one with its last victory prior to that one coming at the CIAA Round-Up versus Saint Augustine's on March 24, 9-7.

  • Regardless of what happens in the regular season and home finale on April 27, Head Coach Zadaisha Waddell will end the year with the most victories ever by a first-year coach for Lincoln softball (12, presently), and will enter the 2024 campaign less than three wins away from being the all-time coaching leader, currently held by Jill Freese, who had 15 wins over three seasons (2017-2019).

Next:

  • Two home games remain until the regular season ends as the Lions face their fellow Orange and Blue color scheme rivals from Virginia State this Thursday.
