Greenidge Twins Break Program Records, Mother Nature Snatches Victory From Jaws Of Defeat

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania baseball program led 3-2 at the conclusion of the sixth inning of game two but gave up four runs in the top of the seventh to trail 6-3. However, a lightning delay followed by a heavy downpour caused the contest to go no further and the score reverted back to the previous frame, giving Lincoln an unorthodox victory.

The Orange and Blue gave its five seniors, Josiah Bowles (Plant City, Fla./Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy), DeAndre Bowens (Rock Hill, N.Y./Monticello), Sheldon Johnson (Pittsburgh, Penn./Woodland Hills), Leon McKnight (Philadelphia, Penn./Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter), and Drew Darby (Union, N.J./Union), a victorious send off in their last home game for the first time since defeating Bridgeport in the finale on May 4, 2019 (7-4).

Lincoln (PA) Top Performers:

  • Jaden Greenidge (Richmond, Va./Monacan) hit a solo homer to left field in the bottom of the seventh in the opener to break the program's all-time single season home run record, giving him seven round-trippers, accounting for nearly 40% of all long balls hit by the Lions in 2023 (7-of-18, 38.9%).

  • While not registering a hit on Saturday, Jalen Greenidge (Richmond, Va./Monacan) also set a new program single-season high the day prior, surpassing fellow teammate Jefry Azcona (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) for the most base hits in a campaign, notching hit #41 with a double in the third before moving into first place alone in his next at-bat by singling for #42 in the fifth.

  • Miguel Agramonte (Fallston, Md./Fallston) had a series to remember, hitting .571 (4-for-7) with two runs scored, the game-tying RBI-double and scoring the ultimate winning run on an Azcona sacrifice fly one batter later.

  • Seniors Bowles, Bowens, and Darby put together four hits, two RBIs, a score, and a walk between them at the dish while Bowles picked up the Senior Day pitching win with a six-inning complete game where he struck out four while allowing just two runs on three hits to give him a team-best three victories at 3-2.

  • Bailey Corley (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens Sr.) pitched beautifully in the front half of the twin bill, tossing a season-high 3.1 innings of scoreless work, ceding just two baserunners in the process.

Next:

  • The Lions sit 3.5 games behind D'Youville for the final spot in the ECC Tournament with eight games remaining, but the road will not be easy as next up is the top seeded Lions of Molloy starting at 3 p.m. on Friday in Uniondale, New York.
